THE BOOT LIST ITEM #101

Ractopamine is an animal feed additive used to promote leanness and improve the quality of meat in farmed animals. It promotes weight gain and improves feed efficiency in both cattle and swine. It does this by increasing protein synthesis and muscle fiber size. As of 2014, ractopamine use was banned in 160 countries. While it is considered safe for human consumption there are concerns for animal welfare and other potential health risks.
