Olestra, also known by its brand name Olean, is a fat substitute used in food products. It can replace up to 75% of cooking oil die to its high heat stability making it valuable to manufacturers. It is commonly used in “low-fat” and ready to eat snacks. While Olestra contains zero calories, its health risks are to be considered.
