Caramelized Bananas with Ghee & Cinnamon

Ghee is butter that has been cooked to remove the water and milk solids, leaving it free of lactose. It's similar to clarified butter, except ghee is cooked even longer to bring out the nutty flavor.

Ghee has been used in Ayruvedic medicine for thousands of years for its healing qualities, including enhanced digestion and wound healing. It's a healthy fat rich in vitamins A, E, D, and K. Ghee is great for those who have to avoid dairy, plus its shelf stable and lasts for months in the pantry!

I love cooking with ghee because of its high smoke point and rich, buttery flavor. Just a little bit can transform the everyday banana into something really delicious. You can eat these Caramelized Bananas with Ghee and Cinnamon on their own as a sweet treat, or add them to a bowl of oatmeal or yogurt for breakfast.

1. Heat a pan to medium high heat and add the ghee.
2. Peel banana, cut in half, and then cut both halves down the middle lengthwise so you have 4 slices.
3. Add banana slices cut side down to the hot pan along with optional chopped walnuts. Allow to cook, without moving, for about 2 minutes. Flip bananas and cook another 30 seconds on the other side.
4. Transfer bananas and walnuts to a plate and sprinkle with salt and cinnamon. Enjoy warm.
