Blue Dye 1

Blue Dye 1 (Brilliant Blue FCF) is a synthetic dye that colors food, toiletries, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics a bright blue pigment. An azo dye is a subcategory of artificial dyes, described by its chemical composition of the azo group. It is made from petroleum, but was originally derived from coal tar. This dye can also be recognized under FD&C Blue No. 1 or Acid Blue 9. Though considered safe to consume in very small amounts, related health concerns include hyperactivity, neurobehavioral issues in children, and allergic reactions.
