Cyclamate is an artificial sweetener that comes in two forms: sodium cyclamate and calcium cyclamate. These compounds are salts of cyclohexylsulfamic acid. This artificial sweetener is 30-50 times sweeter than table sugar, and is often mixed with saccharin to mask the taste. Cyclamate is more stable under heating and is therefore valuable for manufactures, specifically baking. It has been banned in some countries dur to links to cancer, metabolism effects, headaches and other side effects.
