Brominated Vegetable Oil (BVO) is a complex mixture of plant-derived triglycerides modified by atoms of bromine bonded to the fat molecules. BVO is typically used in citrus beverages as an emulsifier. The FDA no longer allows BVO in food or beverages due to health and safety concerns.
