THE BOOT LIST ITEM #7

Artificial preservatives are chemical substances added to food. Preservatives offer a longer shelf life, give the perception of higher quality, prevent discoloration, and prevent bacteria and disease in some products. They are often sprayed on the outside of food, or included in a mix of ingredients. Often preservatives are used in packaging as well as food products. However, some artificial preservatives have raised health concerns, especially for children. It’s important to choose the freshest unpackaged foods whenever possible.
