Lose the "Diet" Foods with Melanie

 MelanieHardinBeach

I still don’t believe it, but I was first inspired to change my eating habits by the book, "French Women Don’t Get Fat." The book made me realize that the “diet” foods I was eating were not actually good for me or satisfying. Simple is better.

I now eat and provide my family with whole, seasonal foods. We try to eat one or two vegetarian meals each week. We try to support our local farmer’s market. We don’t eat a lot of processed food, and with help from several sources, including Earth Fare’s Boot Patrol, we have cut out processed foods that contain ingredients that may be harmful or just not good for us.

I initiated my lifestyle change a little over a year ago. I have lost and kept off over 25 pounds!  My husband can't believe it. Here we are eating yummy non-diet food and we’re losing/maintaining our weight. I exercise a bit, but even with exercise, if you’re not trying to be the next championship body builder, simple is better. My husband and I try to take a walk around the park or the neighborhood several times a week. We also do some workout videos at home. We get to laugh at ourselves and each other when we completely mess up those routines!

My success has inspired me - so much that I’m currently working on getting my finances straight so I can go back to school to get a degree in nutrition and food science, so that maybe someday I will be able to share the wealth.
