Infant
0-6 months
Aside from the inability to control their outbursts and their bladder, infants are a joy to be around. But, they’re also hungry – a lot. Here are some pointers for infant nutrition.
Infant Health Tips
-
Nurse or feed your baby as often as required. Learn to understand the signs that your baby is full. Reality check: babies can only talk in Disney movies so learning how your child expresses that they’re hungry or not hungry is key. A few signals that it’s dinnertime include stretching and lip movement. Waiting until your baby cries is not advised.
-
Use feeding as bonding time. Some people bond through competition. Others bond by talking. You and your baby bond through nurture and touch.
-
Start reading to your child even at this young age. Children who see an adult reading are more likely to do so themselves. But, stick to appropriate children’s books with plenty of color and pictures – a three month old isn’t quite ready for Hemingway and Steinbeck.
-
Go for regular checkups with your pediatrician. This will ensure that your baby is healthy and happy. It’s hard, but try not to rush to the ER every time your baby has the sniffles. This leads us to our final point…

Relax! You’re definitely going to worry (it’s what parents do); just don’t worry too much. Always supervise your child, but let him/her explore and discover new things on his/her own.
